SC - Sidebar Party

Overview

SC - Sidebar Party adds a Party tab to the Foundry VTT sidebar. It gives the table a quick view of party members without opening each actor sheet: portraits, online status, primary and secondary resources, status effects, and selected character fields can all appear on the same card.

The module is useful for both GMs and players. The actions shown to each person depend on Foundry permissions, actor ownership, available tokens, and the active game system.

The Party tab keeps the most important character information in one narrow sidebar view.

Compatibility and Installation

This module is premium and supports Foundry VTT v13 and v14.

Install access is handled through the Shattered Codex Download Hub.

See How to Download Premium Modules from the Download Hub for the full access and installation flow.

It includes system adapters for D&D 5e, Pathfinder 2e, and Daggerheart. Other systems can use the generic fallback when their actor data and roll workflow expose compatible information. Some actions, such as movement rules or group roll choices, depend on what the active system supports.

After installing through the Download Hub:

  1. Enable SC - Sidebar Party in your world.
  2. Open Configure Settings > Module Settings > SC - Sidebar Party if you want to adjust visibility, resources, or the layout.

The module uses the users, actors, and character assignments already in the world. You do not need to create a separate party document.

Open the Party Tab

Open the users tab in the Foundry sidebar. The module adds the Party view there. You can also use the default keybinding Shift+P. To change the shortcut, open Foundry's Configure Controls menu.

Characters can appear when:

  • a player has an assigned character;
  • a player owns an actor; or
  • the module is configured to show offline players or other player-owned characters.

If the tab says No party members found, check the actor ownership and character assignments first.

Understand a Party Card

A card can include the following information, depending on the chosen layout:

  • the actor's portrait and portrait framing;
  • the character or player name and online/offline state;
  • a primary resource such as hit points;
  • an optional secondary resource such as spell or focus resources;
  • status effects, inspiration, concentration, exhaustion, and death-save state;
  • fields such as Armor Class, Speed, Passive Perception, Initiative, or ability scores;
  • a linked player camera when Foundry's native camera feature is available.

The card can also show quick actions. Actions that the current user cannot use are hidden or disabled; for example, an action may require actor ownership or an active token.

Resource and field layout
Cards can show the primary resource together with selected fields such as Strength, Dexterity, and Armor Class.

Customize the Layout

GMs can open Configure Settings > Module Settings > SC - Sidebar Party and select Open customizer. The Sidebar Party Customizer shows a live preview using the same party layout used in the sidebar.

Start with a preset, then adjust only what you need. Available presets include Balanced Sidebar, Portrait Focus, Tactical Compact, Cam Mode, and Status Dense.

The customizer can change:

  • portrait shape and card spacing;
  • whether the card uses a full portrait, a player camera, or stat pills beside the portrait;
  • the width of the side panel;
  • health-bar position, colors, opacity, and value format;
  • visible fields, icons, labels, status effects, and quick actions;
  • whether cards use rounded corners or stretch to the sidebar edges.

Select Save and Close to apply the layout. Use Restore Defaults if the layout becomes difficult to read.

Tactical Compact preset
A compact layout keeps portraits, stat pills, and health rows visible in a narrow sidebar.

Choose card field paths

The Left Field and Right Field inputs accept actor data paths, not a fixed set of options. Enter each path relative to the actor's system data. For example, use attributes.ac.value, not system.attributes.ac.value.

The lists below collect the most useful paths for each built-in system adapter. Any other path that resolves to a number, numeric string, or Boolean value can also work. A blank, missing, or nonnumeric field is hidden on that actor's card. Parent resource paths usually show value / max; add .value when you want to show only the current value.

Actor-specific notes. Death saving throw paths work as fields, but the module already provides a dedicated death-save tracker when a character reaches 0 Hit Points. Legendary actions, legendary resistances, Challenge Rating, and spellcasting level apply to NPC actors.

Adapter defaults. The D&D 5e adapter uses attributes.hp as the default primary resource. If the secondary resource is blank, it uses spells.pact when Pact Magic is available; otherwise, it uses the first available spell-slot level.

Actor-specific notes. Lore skill slugs depend on the actor and are not part of the standard list above.

Compatibility note. Older layouts may suggest attributes.speed.value. That compatibility path still exists in PF2e 7.x, but movement.speeds.land.value is the current path.

Adapter defaults. The default primary resource is attributes.hp. The default secondary resource is resources.focus for an actor with a focus pool, or resources.heroPoints otherwise.

Resource behavior. In Daggerheart, Hit Points and Stress are stored as marked slots. The first number in value / max is therefore the number marked, not the number remaining.

Adapter defaults. The default primary resource is resources.hitPoints, and the default secondary resource is resources.stress.

Edit portrait framing

In the Party toolbar, choose Edit portrait framing. Drag the portrait to reposition it and zoom to change the crop. A GM can save the framing for an actor so other users see the same composition. A GM must be online for a shared portrait edit to be saved.

Use Party Actions

Open a member's action menu to use the actions available to you. Common system-agnostic actions include:

  • Open sheet;
  • Pan to token;
  • Target token;
  • Edit portrait framing;
  • supported quick rolls or requests from the active system adapter.

The toolbar can also contain group actions:

  • Request group roll for a saving throw, skill check, ability check, initiative, or another supported request;
  • Set movement mode when the active system supports party movement controls;
  • show or hide offline players;
  • open the customizer or module settings.
Member actions
The card toolbar can expose actions such as opening the sheet, panning to a token, and targeting a token.
1 / 3

Request a group roll

  1. Choose Request group roll in the Party toolbar.
  2. In Party Request, select the participants.
  3. Choose the Request type, such as Saving Throw, Skill Check, Ability Check, or Initiative.
  4. Choose the exact roll option when one is available.
  5. Optionally enter a Difficulty (DC) and choose Roll visibility.
  6. Select Post.

Foundry posts the request in chat. Each participant rolls from the chat card, and the results are tracked there. Actors that cannot perform the selected request are shown as unavailable.

Use movement controls

Choose Set movement mode to select the table rule. The available choices are Free movement, No movement, Combat movement, and, for supported D&D 5e workflows, Block past movement.

Movement restrictions are permission-aware. Some choices require an active combat or the current combat turn, and only the GM can change the table movement mode.

Configure Visibility and Resources

Open Configure Settings > Module Settings > SC - Sidebar Party, then select Open module settings. These settings control how the module finds party members and which actor resources it displays.

Visibility

  • Only connected players prefers connected players.
  • Show offline users keeps offline players in the Party tab.
  • Only assigned player characters limits the list to characters explicitly assigned as a non-GM player's main character.
  • Compact other players' characters displays additional player-owned characters in a tighter layout.

Resource mapping

The module chooses defaults from the active system adapter. If a resource is missing or does not appear correctly, set Primary resource path or Secondary resource path to the actor data path used by your system.

For example, a D&D 5e world commonly uses attributes.hp for the primary resource. Leave a path blank to use the adapter's default. Resource paths are technical values, so ask the system or world author if you are unsure which path your actors use.

Troubleshooting

The Party tab is empty

Confirm that players have assigned characters or ownership of the intended actors. If offline characters should remain visible, enable Show offline users or use the offline toggle in the Party toolbar.

A token action does not work

The actor may not have an active token on the current scene, or your user may not have the required ownership or role. Open the actor sheet to confirm that the actor and token are available.

A camera is not visible

Enable Foundry's native camera/AV feature and confirm that the relevant camera stream is available. In the customizer, set Side panel to Player camera. The module mirrors Foundry's native camera controls; the native AV dock remains the source of the live stream.

A resource bar is wrong or blank

Check the active system adapter and the Primary resource path or Secondary resource path. Clear a custom path to return to the adapter default.
